Set out a quiet place to write

Put the baby wish cards on a firm table with a few dark ink pens and an envelope or small box for completed messages. Keep drinks on a separate surface so the cards stay dry. Offer the activity as guests arrive or while everyone settles after food, rather than interrupting a conversation to make each person take a turn.

Unlike competitive baby shower games, this activity needs no timer, scoring, or winner. Let guests finish as many lines as they wish, and do not require anyone to read a message aloud. A child can dictate a thought to an adult or add a drawing on the back.

Make the wishes specific and kind

The card begins with hopes for what the baby will discover, how they will feel, and whom they will find around them. A concrete idea such as discovering a love of books gives a message more personality than a string of grand promises. For the line about always knowing something, a guest might write that they have people they can turn to.

The final prompts invite a shared experience and a small piece of advice for baby. Think of a favorite recipe to teach, a park to explore, or encouragement to ask for help. Avoid predictions about appearance, career, marriage, or abilities that could turn a wish into an expectation.

Print a test card before making the full set

Save the image first, then open it in your usual photo or print application. Select portrait orientation and fit the whole image within the printable area, with borderless cropping turned off. The design has a vertical 2:3 shape, so Letter and A4 paper will leave extra white space around it.

Try a finished size of 6 by 9 inches on a larger sheet, then trim the surrounding paper if you want a separate card. Check that the prompt labels are easy to read and that your handwriting fits comfortably between the rules. Ordinary matte paper works for a casual gathering; choose heavier paper only if your printer supports it, and test a pen for smearing before printing the remaining copies.
